Education:
- High School: New Utrecht HS, Brooklyn, NY
- BS, MS, PhD: University of Michigan, Ann Arbor MI
Philosophy of life:
- If you try it, you can do it
- Behold the turtle: it on makes progress when it sticks its neck out
- It costs me nothing to be polite
- Education is important, but don't just be impressed by anyone's academic degrees:
A PhD, plus a token, will get you ride on the subway
BS - bull****, MS - more ****, PhD - Piled higher and Deeper
Pebbles so far
Around Feb. 10, 2026 I ran into a post on Threads about dropping out of high school, getting a GED, enrolling at Manchester Community College, going on to get a PhD, and recently being the commencement speaker at MCC.
My father worked for MCC for 15 years and was always very proud of the work the college was doing. He wrote an autobiography / memoir which has never been published. Here's the section of it about his involvement with MCC. It's particularly appropriate, because my noticing that Threads post is one of those little random things that have a surprisingly large effect, another pebble like the ones in the title of his memoirs. I will try to proofread, edit, and format the rest for the web gradually and add it to this site.
