Dairy Delight
My father thought that if he gave a ridiculous answer to a question, people would know he was kidding. That was not always the case. My kids knew this dish by the name "Alfalfa Sprouts" because he once answered "What's for dessert?" that way.
This is the kind of recipe you might expect in a 1950s-era cookbook or newspaper article, except Google says that Cool Whip (an artificial whipped cream, the poster child for "plastic food") was introduced in 1966. So let's say 1960s.
I suppose you could make this with real whipped cream instead of Cool Whip, but if you were going to that much trouble, wouldn't you put the effort into something better? The whole appeal of this is that it's quick to make.
- 1 lb cottage cheese
- 1 small package strawberry, cherry, or raspberry jello
- 1 9 oz container of Cool Whip
- 1 #2 can of fruit, cut to fruit salad size, including syrup
Sprinkle jello on cottage cheese and mix well.
Fold in Cool Whip and fruit.
Refrigerate and let set for a couple of hours.
Serve as dessert or salad (for salad you might prefer lime jello)
I can't deny that this is my handwriting...
