Applesauce Cake

This recipe is from an old paperback cookbook that I've had for decades. We often make more applesauce from our apple crop than we know what to do with. This is always a good way to use a little of it up!

Cream shortening and sugar together. Add egg and beat well.

Whisk flour, soda, salt, cinnamon, and cloves together.

Add dry ingredients to sugar/shortening/egg alternately with applesauce.

Add raisins and walnuts. Mix well.

Bake in 9 inch tube pan (well greased or sprayed with cooking oil spray) at 350 degrees F for 1 hour or until a toothpick inserted in the middle comes out clean.

This was baked in a fancy pan I got at Crate & Barrel. I have to use a generous amount of Pam cooking spray
in this pan, or else the results are a disaster -- but with the spray, it sometimes works great!
